PBN Map tool

The PBN Map tool

The EUROCONTROL Performance-based navigation (PBN) map tool is designed to show the implementation status and plans for PBN procedures in the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) area. It mainly covers PBN approaches (RNP APCH and RNP AR APCH) and PBN Standard instrument departure/arrival routes (SIDs/STARs).

The PBN map tool illustrates the deployment of PBN procedures at ECAC airports. The map’s airport colour code indicates whether procedures are implemented or are planned to be implemented at every instrument runway end (IRE). Views provide the current deployment status as well as the status in the past and in the future.

The tool also provides an overview of the status of deployment against objectives set in the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 2018/1048 (PBN IR). The status of deployment against the PBN IR will only be available for those airports subject to the regulation.  This is an estimate which is regularly reviewed with EASA.

The tool is feature-rich, providing information on:

  • deployment progress based on actual publications (according to national AIPs). The deployment of PBN approach procedures has been monitored since 2012 and since 2021 for PBN SIDs/STARs;
  • future deployment trends based on publication plans documented in PBN Transition Plans from ATM/ANS providers;
  • deployment status for ECAC, individual countries, CP1 airports, airports subject to the PBN IR and individual airports;
  • navigation sensors for PBN SID/STAR routes (GNSS, DME/DME);
  • use of “Radius to Fix (RF)” in PBN SID/STAR procedures;
  • PBN procedures for helicopters;
  • current status of conventional procedures in the TMA.
