Activity 14 - ATC System and Integration Considerations

System interfaces may need to be adapted and changes integrated into the overall system architecture; this could involve new systems or new system components.  These tasks are typically overseen by the team's system engineers who will have been involved in the agreement of assumptions, enablers and constraints (Activity 6).

The new Airspace Concept may require changes to the ATC system interfaces and displays to ensure controllers have the necessary information on aircraft capabilities.   Changes to the ATM system could include:

  • Modifying the air traffic automation’s Flight Data Processor (FDP);
  • Making changes, if necessary, to the Radar Data Processor (RDP);
  • Required changes to the ATC situation display;
  • Required changes to ATC support tools;
  • There may be a requirement for changes to ANSP methods for issuing NOTAMS.
